This class will ask students to consider the dual-nature of man - body and spirit - and the influence which this nature has on our stewardship of creation. As Catholics, as Christians, we know that we are pilgrims called by God to live for a time on earth. This class intends to explore how previous great philosophers and theologians have reconciled this dual nature. The lessons they have left paves the way for new generations to look forward to the new creation while still caring for this one.

Students will read two works by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince and  Wind, Sand, and Stars, supplemented by essays from prolific writers such as G.K. Chesterton, J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis. We will discuss these authors' views on man’s pilgrimage on Earth, the role of imagination in living well, and the responsibility which man has to escape the mundane world.
